: MEDICARE DRUG BILL - Big Government at its Worst! So what do we do with a government program that is bleeding red ink, rampant with fraud, and has been identified by the White House OMB as "the real fiscal danger" in our government? (The OMB expects MEDICARE to spend $13 TRILLION more than it brings in through payroll taxes and premiums over the next 75 years.) : Heaven forbid that our elected leaders actually recognize this impending disaster for what it is, an indictment of the U.S. government's wrong headed foray into the healthcare industry. We might even expect our so-called leaders to act responsibly and suggest the outright elimination of Medicare, or at least a major reform of it. Instead, our poll-driven politicians are going in the opposite direction and actually have the nerve to expand the Medicare program by adding a prescription drug benefit. (The OMB estimates that adding a drug benefit will increase the Medicare shortfall by another $7 TRILLION.) : Only in Washington could such a backwards approach be implemented with a straight face. An individual or business operating in such a fashion would be forced into bankruptcy, yet our so-called leaders just print more debt to pass on to our children and grandchildren.
