: : SOCIALIZED MEDICINE IN AMERICA?

: Follow-up on "SOCIALIZED MEDICINE.."

: This all started when we allowed the Federal Government into the practice of medicine, '64 or '65 when "medicare" came into the picture. Whether medicare was good or bad is not the issue. But just like any government program or entitlement, once it's in place it becomes permanent and just like the British system, no politician would dare even give a hint that might suggest its abolition unless he wants to commit political suicide. Once in place it can only grow not only in its size, expense but also its power and from this power an ever expanding control over our very lives.

: Every American should ask himself/herself this question though its answer is moot. What would have happened to our medical care system if the Federal Gov't never got into this, ie: Medicare? My sense is that as resourceful as the American people are, we would have taken control of it ourselves and perhaps instituted a much better, less intrusive and a less expensive system. We abdicated that control when the Federal Government got in. We are not prescient. If there is blame here we all are responsible.

: : "We're almost there. Governments now pay 45% of our health care bills and that's fast approaching 50%." (As reported by Forbes Magazine in the May 27th, 2002 issue)
Stop complaining already - socialized medicine is not as bad as you make it out to be. In countries where they have socialized medicine, the quality of health care is about the same - pretty lousy, but at least it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. We don't have the best health care in the world, simply the most expensive. American medicine has no cure for cancer, heart disease, diabetes or infectious disease. Prescription drugs in America kill more people than all illegal drugs combined; artificial hearts, organ transplants, vaccines and the "proven cancer cure" are remedies that are worse than the disease, and you have a better chance of living without them. Whenever doctors have gone on strike in America, the mortality rate has invariably declined; we spend more money on health care and medical research than in the entire history of the world, and people are sicker than ever. The best health care is prevention and we don't practice it. Proper diet can do more to keep you healthy than anything else and yet our diet is ninety-eight percent wrong, unhealthy and unnatural. The American diet makes people sick, and American medicine finishes them off. The increase in taxes that you would have to pay for socialized medicine would be more than offset by not having to pay for health insurance - a costly racket that benefits no one but itself. The fear of socialized medicine is worse than socialized medicine. The existing health care system is far worse than socialized medicine could ever be. Take responsibility for your own health and life, and do not put your trust or your life in the hands of those who profit obscenely from it, whether they cure you or kill you.
: : This makes me sick....what happened to Americans taking care of themselves....America is fast becoming the socialist wimp that the Europeans have been for some time....soon we will be whining like the French.
